Chris gets the oil cooler mounted and plumbed on Costa’s new nicely fabbed bracket. It is amazing how Costa can continue to whip up such nice parts under these conditions when I can hardly figure out how to do a zip tie due to exhaustion. |
The car mostly done. I set the toe by eyeball right after this. Getting it done correctly can wait until Abu Dhabi! Fortunately I got the caster and camber done. |
Nice stuff right before we bolt the nose on We wanted to do a push bar to protect all of the heat exchangers but there was simply no time to do it. Dai is gonna have to be careful as there is only thin fiberglass between the rough and tumble world of drifting and all of this delicate stuff. |
We shove the car on a trailer and drag Clark Steppler of JWT out of bed at 6:30 am to help us tune the car. We are in San Diego. The car is supposed to be at the port of long beach by 9:00 am, ain’t gonna happen no way. The whole staff of JWT including Jim Wolf and Clark Steppler start pounding on the car as soon as they think they can get away with it without pissing off the neighbors. A fuel delivery problem is found and solved in record time and the car is tuned. I pass out lying on the concrete floor. Costa is still going. We call Mike Essa, Chris Forsberg and Tanner Foust’s crews and tell them to stall the longshoremen. |
Booyah! 610 whp and 610 lb ft of torque at only 21 psi of boost! The Hybrid JWT/Costa kit with the Garrett GT28RS turbos rocks! Running around in the parking lot shows there is explosive power with no lag at all. The car seems faster than Dai’s Falken factory S13! The GT28RS turbo really rocks, the engine feels like a big NA V8. Now we hope that the stock bottom end can take this. We are going to turn down the boost a little for Abu Dhabi. After tuning at JWT, we load the car in the trailer and make a beeline to the port of Long Beach. Costa passes out and Chris and I take turns driving to stay awake. We finally make it to Long Beach where impatient longshoremen load it in a container. Bye car we will see you soon! |
Stay tuned, in the next segment of this adveture we will talk about things on our trip halfway around the world!
