The Road to Abu Dhabi Part Two- Getting There is Half the Fun
This amazing thing is a part we called the squid.  The squid is a tig welded aluminum assembly where the air is diverted from the MAF to the compressor inlets of the twin turbos.  The squid also contains the MAF sensing element and the discharge from the Synapse BOV.  The JWT part that the squid replaces has simple T- junctions but we decided to get tricky and design the squid with nice good flowing merges and smooth junctures.  Costa also tried to keep the inlet length as equal as possible with no tight bends.  The BOV discharge is pointed to aim away from the MAF sensing element to prevent it from messing up the signal.  Finally there is a built in velocity stack for the JWT POP Charger air filter.  It looks simple but there was a lot of difficult mitering and welding going on here.  We saw Costa build the thing right in front of our eyes and it was amazing.  8 hours to go….

A shot down the throat of the squid showing the nice merges.  I know the light isn’t great but let me assure you at this time of night I could could give a crap about setting up nice lighting.  Thank god my Canon 50D is pretty good under low light conditions.

I passed out while waiting for Costa to finish more parts to install.  That’s not a grin and someone was messing with me I guess.  Sleeping in a chair while freezing cold is not cool.  My ass trying to keep up with way younger people isn’t either.  I found this pic when looking at what was in my camera a few days later.

Eric Hsu made a trip to Cosworth in the middle of the night and assembled this intake manifold so we could get it in time.  Cosworth was out of stock of VQ manifolds so Eric scrounged up old pieces from the development shop and put this manifold together just so we could get it in time.  Thanks Cosworth and Eric.  A Coswoth intake is worth about 40 whp on a FI VQ35 at the same given boost level.
