TUSC: Indianapolis Motor Speedway 2014

The 93 Viper makes a run for first and is closely followed by the Risi Ferrari after the #911 goes out due to engine trouble…

…while the sister Porsche 912 chases them down.
But when the checkered flag fell, the Viper had held on to the lead for its first victory of the season.

Another positive from the combination of the two series is the GTD class. Grand Am started making changes to get away from the tube frame cars such as the RX8s, Camaros, and BMWs, and moved to machinery closer to European GT3 specs. There are still differences between the GT3s and the GTD spec cars including a series standard wing for GTD, along with traction control and ABS delete. But the bet paid off. GTD has a diverse class of Ferraris, Audis, Porsches, an Aston Martin, a BMW Z4, and a Viper. All of the racers are well balanced, providing some excellent close racing. In the end, Alessandro Balzan, last year’s champion took the checkered after passing the 22 WeatherTech Porsche of former teammate Lea Keen, as they lost their brakes and settled for a 5th place finish. Paul Miller Racing’s Audi R8 took second, followed by the GT3 Viper driven by Jeroen Bleekemolen.

The usually very strong #22 Alex Job Racing entry being chased down by the future class winner.
