World Time Attack Challenge 2011: Day 1-Thursday Practice
by Martin Gonzales
We're back with another update from down-under. Today was the official World Time Attack Challenge practice day, but man was there a lot of activity at the track. The gates opened at 8:00am and we rolled in around 9:00, after adding yet another restaurant to our “do not visit” list. I just don't get it man, this is not a third world country so why the hell don't they ever toast buns here! So far I've had a hamburger, a chicken baggette and a chicken burger and they all had cold buns! What the deuce!?
Another small difference down under is coffee. Regular coffee is pretty much a cappuccino, so if you want plain coffee you need to order a “flat black”. Good luck finding creamer though – restaurants here don't have any! After a few failed attempts Jeff got something he could tolerate – “flat white”. Which is just regular milk and coffee…it's growing on him. |
But I digress, back to World Time Attack. By the time we got to the track this morning teams were already unloading, setting up shop and in great spirits. They must have heard the good news on the weather report calling for dry weather all weekend. As of just a couple days ago we were all preparing for some rain on Saturday.
Nick, Greg and Marty from Turbosmart. Greg is pulling double-duty as he is also our main World Time Attack contact – a testament to Turbosmart's commitment to supporting the industry! |

Practice day morning and some teams were already tackling serious problems. Like these guys who were swapping out a transmission. |
