World Time Attack Challenge 2012 – Final Competition Day

,

WTAC, MCA S13
The MCA Suspensions car may look the same on the outside, but after taking a close look it is a completely different build mechanically.  Suspension geometry has been reworked and they definitely have a winning combination on their hands.  On Friday however, they had a flash overheat issue that made them have to pull the head off.  It was also reported that they had a small lifter issue, but they were able to get everything fixed in time to compete on Saturday.

Their efforts to get the car back together and running paid off as they scored a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:27.8080 (5 hundredths faster than last year's champion).   They also took the title of fastest RWD car overall.  Great job guys!

WTAC, Tilton racing

The Tilton Racing Team's efforts yielded them a second place finish overall in the Pro Class. Their 1:27.1820 is very impressive considering their package is a relatively simple one. What's even more impressive is the 1:27.8xx they ran in the the last session of the day. Why? Because they blew the rear diff pump and did it in FWD mode! Making the Tilton Evo IX the fastest FWD car at this year's World Time Attack Challenge…haha!

Rumor has it they may show up with a two car effort next year! They are figuring they will need to build an entirely new car to compete with Nemo Racing.

After the lap times Nemo Racing was laying down on Friday, it was no surprise who this year's World Time Attack Challenge champion would be.  What was surprising was that they took even MORE time off their already blistering lap times.  Warren Luff was able to turn a 1:25.0200!  That's almost a full 2 seconds faster than second place folks.

So how high has the bar been raised?  Let us give you one more bit of insider info.  Nemo Racing built two engines for their car and the times they ran at WTAC were achieved on their lesser horsepower motor which reportedly produces 600HP.  Their big-boy motor is said to make 900HP, but unfortunately it gave up the ghost BAD during testing at Queensland Raceway last month.  Check out the video below.

So what can we expect next year? Well, after talking to representatives from most of the top Pro Teams at the WTAC after party, you can count on another full field in the Pro Class. We got confirmation from both Nemo Racing and Tilton Interiors that they will be back and you can bet your ass Team America will be there!  You can also count on the WTAC putting together another successful time attack event that is sure to continue to grow as the level of competition continues to attract the attention of top level Motorsport professionals. The WTAC is taking the sport of time attack to the next level and we cannot wait to see what's in store for us next year!
