WTAC 2013: The King Is Dead!

,

The next we heard the car was at Voltex having a new aero package designed for it and tested in a wind tunnel. It was clear the Tilton guys wanted the title and wanted it bad!

During Thursday's practice session Nemo went out for a couple of laps, but retired with what we later found out to be head gasket issues. All eyes were on Tilton’s Evo that looked very quick, but since Thursday didn’t have any timed sessions it was difficult to tell exactly what times they were running.

On Friday the arriving competitors, exhibitors and spectators were greeted by an eerie orange glow on the horizon as Sydney was surrounded by bushfires.

…..but fans were also greeted by a beautiful line up of high-tech machinery.  Car guy heaven!  Just take a look at the aero on that NSX or the ginormous front splitter on the Autotech car.  This is why you come to the WTAC!

Still need more reasons to make the trip to Australia for WTAC?

Friday. WTAC Day 1.  While the track itself was not in danger, the blood-red and smoke-covered sky was a somber reminder of the local fires.  Though that was honestly the last thing on anyone's mind, as the rumbling sounds from the garages indicated it was time for everyone to pay attention to the track…it was time to start the WTAC!

The Nemo team was keen to put a run on the board and Warren Luff did just that with a 1:27.70. Tilton wasted no time in responding with a 1:25.38 of their own. Enough to put them at the top of the leader board and within a whisker of beating Nemo’s 2012 record!

With crowds lining up all good vantage points and anticipation in the air, Tilton went out again in the afternoon session with a clear goal – to break the 1:25 barrier!
