Saturday. Day 2. – Unfortunately all was not well in the Nemo camp. The team had replaced the head gasket…again…but the car continued to overheat. Warren Luff had to abort his midday session and return to the garage. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose – that’s racing! Unlike 2012, this year proved to be much harder for the Nemo team with the car struggling with overheating issues.
“We were gutted,” said Mark Rayner (Nemo Team Manager). “The team worked so hard and we were looking forward to giving the Tilton boys a good run for their money, but after suffering from the overheating problems and blown head gaskets we decided we just couldn’t do it. That’s racing. In the end Chris Eaton took the car out for a few low-boost laps for the fans who had come a long way and unfortunately didn’t get to see much of the car.”
“Congratulations to the Tilton team, the title couldn’t have gone to a nicer bunch of guys. We are looking forward to a re-match in 2014!”
Just when we thought we had the podium all wrapped up, Earl Bamber ripped out an amazing 1:27.36 lap in the MCA Suspension S13 to take the runner-up spot, pushing Nemo down to third.
With a lap time of 1:27.36 this was the fastest RWD car at the event, and quite possibly the fastest RWD time attack car in the world!
