2013 Modified StreetCar Shootout – The Rules, The Cars, The Big Tease.

,

The third test would be what I consider to be the most important! The Time Attack. The teams would get 3 practice sessions and the 4th would be the session that counted for laying down their fastest possible time. The time attack was held on The Firebird circuit that is 1.1 miles in length. The long front straight really allowed some of the higher horsepower cars to stretch their legs while the technical back section allowed the cars that were well balanced to make up for lost time.

The event was ran without using the “looper” and also running the straight section between 9 and 11.

Conquest
John Lazorack's V8 Chrysler Conquest TSi has a LS 5.7L pushrod V8 engine swap from a 2002 Corvette mated to a T56 6 speed transmission.  There's lots of custom here from hand built headers and 3″ dual exhaust, DOM rollcage, and a stitch welded chassis.

Toyota MR2 Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks with shortened strut housings, Cosmo coilovers, custom control bars, and Suspension Technique front and rear sway bars round out the suspension.

It may look like a perfect fit but it involved cutting the firewall and sourcing a new steering system, in this case a rack and pinion steering setup from a Ford Mustang 5.0.  John then designed custom steering knuckles with a 3D modeling program and had a local machine shop produce them.

Conquest interior

You'd never guess this was the Conquest's interior.  The custom carbon fiber, aluminum, and suede interior wraps a set of Prosport oil, water temp, and volt gauges.  Back in the day, this would have been a high school boy's wet dream to own.  Shoot, it still is – if only equipped with blue tooth…

This image allows us to show you some cool cars and segway to the next car… Dave Bruzewski brought his AMS equipped Evo from Michigan to see how a Midwest Guy could stand up to the rest of the field.
