Whether it’s karting or formula racing, David will race, and shine in any place you put him. His first race of the 2011 year was the Grand Am Rolex 24 at Daytona in the GT class. Cheng drove the PR1 Motorsports’ BMW M6, number 32 car, with three other team drivers. One teammate’s stint resulted in major crash damage before Cheng had reached his first stint in the race. The team fought hard to keep the car on track and was able to find a P21 result in the class.

In the Scirocco R-Cup China series David ranked 7th in the championship in 2011, his best showing was a second place finish at the prestigious Merdeka Millennium 12 hour endurance race in Sepang, Malaysia. The Scirocco R Cup China will be on Cheng’s schedule again in 2012 including the Merdeka Millennium event. The Meredeka race is known as the premier local Malaysian event. With strong recognitions through his North American and Asian racing efforts, DCR will continue to gain international attention in the coming season and Cheng is looking to lay down the results to match the growing buzz and spotlight.

Highlighting the first ever Le Mans Prototype Challenge start for Cheng, he finished third at Mid-Ohio, racing with team PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports and co-driver Javier Echeverria. The duo worked well together and kept up with the race pace and stayed out of trouble. Cheng was motivated by his podium finish and performance, especially for his first race in this series.

The Formula Pilota Masters also proved Cheng’s formula racing ability with two third place finishes. These were achieved after a season finale double-header this past month. This was Cheng’s first Pilota race event, and rainy conditions were believed to help aid Cheng in his efforts. As a young driver raised in the Seattle area, you can bet that wet track conditions are a benefit to this racer.

“2011 was a fantastic season for David and David Cheng Racing!” States Dan Gulickson, “From the beginning at Daytona, where David drove his first Rolex 24 hr. race in the GT class; then rising to the podium in his first ever American Le Mans Series Prototype race; finishing runner-up in the championship after five wins in the Pacific F2000 series; an amazing team effort to finish 2nd in the Asia's Merdeka Millennium 12 hr. Endurance; and successfully competing in VW's Scirocco R-Cup Asia series. David literally made a world-wide impression in international motorsports. He is a throwback to the days of great drivers who found success competing in every venue and series they raced in…a modern-day A.J. Foyt, Dan Gurney, or Mario Andretti. The stage is set for David to become the next BIG name in auto racing…all over the world!”

DCR has a lot in store for 2012. Recently announcing a driving deal with APR is one important factor for Cheng to continue to find success as a driver. APR will field Cheng in a VW Golf GTI in the Street Tuner class for his upcoming Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series debut year. Co-piloting the ST race car with Cheng is fellow driver and friend Aleks Altberg.
