BMW E39 M5 Fuel Pump Repair With DeatschWerks

Once you have the ring off you can carefully pry up the hanger to remove it. The hanger, fuel level sending unit and fuel pump assembly can now be lifted off the tank. Be sure to let the fuel drain out of the assembly before moving it away from the fuel tank opening. Having a drain pan handy will help ensure you don’t get any fuel on the carpet or other interior parts.

With everything off the car you can disconnect the fuel line and the electrical connector from the OEM fuel pump.

Use a large screwdriver and carefully pry/slide the OEM pump out of the hanger.

The first thing we had to do was source one of these fuel pump sleeves in order for the DW300 to fit nice and snug in the OE fuel pump hanger. We lucked out and happened to have this extra sleeve at the MotoIQ Garage, but you can easily find them online by searching for “fuel pump foam sleeve”. As you can see in the picture above a thin sleeve will do.

The tabs circled above must be cut off the DW300 in order for the pump to sit where it needs to in the OE hanger. If the tabs are not cut off the pump it will not sit deep enough in the OE hanger, which will not allow the lip of the filter-sock port to stick out enough to properly install the filter-sock.

  1. Hi, I have tried to email a couple years ago about this but the filter sock shown in page 4 is not from kit 9-401-1052. I have had a couple customers ask about this filter and this is not the correct one. Notice in the links below. The 400 utilizes an entirely different filter sock than most standard pumps. PLEASE change the part number to kit 9-1034. That kit has the correct filter for what you are trying to accomplish.

    TLDR:
    9-401-1052 incorrect, 9-1034 correct.

Sincerely, Your friendly neighborhood DW Employee
