BMW E39 M5 Fuel Pump Repair With DeatschWerks

Then the clamps holding the filter in place are removed.

Now the filter can be removed from the car.  The M5’s fuel filter is pretty huge so be prepared to catch a good amount of fuel.

We removed the pressure regulator from the old filter and installed it on our new Mahle filter.

We reinstalled the filter and hooked up the clamps, fuel lines and vacuum line. Now we were ready to reinstall the plastic cover and set our M5 back down on the ground.

The new DW300 filter works perfectly. It eliminated our anxiety of the pump failing at any moment and so far it has also gotten rid of the P0313 CEL code. If anything changes we will be sure to report back. We can’t really tell whether or not the pump is louder than the stock pump. With the interior put back together we can barely hear the pump priming before start-up. The DW300 is a great heavy duty replacement for the problematic E39 M5 stock fuel pump  that we can recommend any day!

This procedure can be replicated by anyone, you’ll just need to be sure to get the correct filter sock for your DW300. Remember, the filter sock we used came from the DW400 kit for the 92-06 BMW 3-series. Though DeatschWerks doesn’t make a plug-and-play kit for the E39 M5, maybe if enough E39 owners order their universal kit and keep requesting the 3-series filter sock they will consider making one. So when you order your DW300 be sure to order it directly from DeatschWerks so they can help you get your hands on the parts you need.

  1. Hi, I have tried to email a couple years ago about this but the filter sock shown in page 4 is not from kit 9-401-1052. I have had a couple customers ask about this filter and this is not the correct one. Notice in the links below. The 400 utilizes an entirely different filter sock than most standard pumps. PLEASE change the part number to kit 9-1034. That kit has the correct filter for what you are trying to accomplish.

    TLDR:
    9-401-1052 incorrect, 9-1034 correct.

Sincerely, Your friendly neighborhood DW Employee
