Caffeine and Octane – Atlanta, GA

To further evoke a feeling of yesteryear, look to the 9 O’clock spoke on this beautiful Porsche steering wheel.  That is a mechanical stopwatch.  Wind the top to energize the mainspring, then click downward to start the clock.  A second click stops the clock leaving the elapsed time visible to the user; then click the second button to restart.  A click of the second button while the clock runs actuates the “split time” or “lap time” function, marking the elapsed time.
True spider DNA encased in the gear selector of the Porsche 550 Spyder.
Though labeled Porsche, Porsche selected the front axle, rear suspension, transmission, and early engine out of the VW parts bin.  The engine is a 2165cc engine from CB Performance rated at ~165 hp.  This Beck variant has upgraded disc brakes and larger radial tires as opposed to the original drums and bias ply tires.
Leather has since given way to plastics and metal as a mechanical solution.  Nevertheless, the function is thorough and the form is beautiful.
While chatting with Ray, something caught my eye.  In the Where’s Waldo sense, if you can subtract all the Beck and Porsche goodness in this picture, you too may find it.  The yellow car behind the table is a Ford Fiesta that Chuck built – actually he built 9 of them. One of them is in Leno's collection.  He calls the car a SHOgun.  They took the Fiesta engine out of the front and replaced it with a Ford SHO V6 in the rear.
