Caffeine and Octane – Atlanta, GA

,

Leaving the Datsun area, I made my way to a feature in the Chevy pits evidenced by a growing crowd. Along my path, I glanced at the all too familiar shape of a C6 Corvette. However, only a glance at this yellow beast was enough to call for closer inspection.  Twin Precision turbos, TopSpeed intake manifold, and C5R heads are nothing if not amazing power adders and though I couldn’t find the owner, I’d love to know more about this animal.
TopSpeed Motoring is an Atlanta based tuner featuring a wide variety of vehicles from Porsche and Lamborghini to the Nissan GT-R, Toyota Supra, Mitsubishi EVO and Subaru STi. Excessive power is the common denominator in these TSM branded cars and also the common draw and bond for customers.
This is a Pancho Weaver developed chassis and the magnetic feature I mentioned above.  Within the Derhaag carbon/kevlar body beats a  Lee Schwartz Flow Tech Engine with around 800+ HP/540+Torque. Sans fuel injection an 830 CFM Barry Grant Carburetor orchestrates the mixing of air and fuel.
A Hewland MVE-STA (Mid Valley Engineering) is employed as it was the dominating transmission of the American Trans-Am series and was also used in the Pratt and Miller C5-R.  A custom 9” Ford rear end with Watts link, houses an aluminum thru bolt TrueTrac differential with a 3.89 gear.
With 16 year old Rookie Nick Hazelwood behind the wheel, a 1:51 at VIR, 1:21 at Road Atlanta, and 1:50 at Daytona have been recorded.
Note the two numbers under the side view mirror.  They identify the minimum weight that the vehicle is capable of, with driver, in TA and GT1 relative classes.
