… while the other one is a Fiber Tuff rigid disc. In the full-race setup, Clutch Masters sends two ceramic discs. The combination this car is getting is supposed to be a little easier to slip so it stays street-friendly.
Given the fact that this is a turbo car primarily for the street, we opted out of getting Clutch Masters’ lightweight aluminum flywheel, which weighs only 9-lb, and chose the 16-lb steel flywheel instead.
Having a slightly heavier steel flywheel will keep more energy stored in it for better low-rev launches from a dig, and the rev drop between shifts won’t be so drastic going into the next gear either. Otherwise that kills a little bit of your torque too.
Here’s a pic of the clutch installed on the HPF M3 at Modified by KC, with clutch alignment tool still in. HPF stands for Horsepower Freaks, by the way, which is an outfit that was well known for turbocharging E46 BMW M3s. They’ve since gone out of business, however.
We also ordered a Clutch Masters High Performance Hydraulic Bearing, which was designed to not only eliminate some moving parts like the clutch fork and release bearing but also to provide a softer pedal feel and provide more consistent pressure for smoother clutch engagement. Clutch Masters reports this unit also reduces the shock to the drivetrain.
