Fast Fridays 2014, Part 1

,

This is an ’89 Mosler Consulier GPT LX, and #39 of only 80 cars ever built.  This particular car was built for the president of Mosler.  It sports a 2.2-liter turbo and weighs a paltry 1925 lb.

When introduced in 1985, the Mosler Consulier was the first carbon fiber and Kevlar-bodied vehicle ever to go into production.  Warren Mosler himself was so confident in the car’s performance that he offered $25k to anyone who could pilot any other production car faster than the Mosler.

Car and Driver writers Antoine and Csere welcomed the challenged and beat their Mosler laps with a Corvette, saying the Mosler was too difficult to handle and control under braking.  But Mosler didn’t ante up, stating he needed to pick the track to be eligible for the money, and that the car was older and worn out anyway.  In any case, the car was so successful in racing—including outgunning the likes of Porsche Turbos and even a Callaway Twin Turbo Vette driven by hot shoe Boris Said—that IMSA banned it from racing in 1991.

Fortunately, the owner of this car kept most passers-by informed with this sheet.  What he didn’t include was the fact that it could do the 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds with a stock 190 bhp.

Next to the Mosler sat a gorgeous Pontiac Trans Am that looked like it had just rolled off the showroom floor.  With 455 cubic inches of displacement (that's 7.5-liters!), you know this sucker gits up and goes!

Speaking of American muscle, no meet in the Midwest is complete without some representation from the Ford Mustang gang.  There were all kinds, including with aftermarket superchargers (ProCharger is very close by), Shelby 500s and Boss 302s.

From the outside, this Mustang Cobra doesn’t show all of its cards.  Some might notice a couple of gauge pods on the A-pillar but even that will go unnoticed by many.

Under the hood, however, this Mustang Cobra has a wicked looking Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharger setup.

We hope you enjoyed some of the Kansas cars.  Fast Fridays 2014 PART 2 is also live!  You can also check out one of last year's Fast Fridays as well.
