There were a few runner ups that gave me a bit of a chubby and deserve notable mention. The first was this 1980 Toyota Corolla complete with a 5.7L LS1 engine. What’s wrong with these Toyota guys anyway? They’re nuts with the engine swaps they come up with. My kind of people.
Another runner up that tickled the ol’ chubby meter was this Toyota Hilux that was on display in the Mackin Industry’s booth. I’m not sure if it had a 1JZ or 2JZ but this Toyota Hilux had “Chuck’s BAMF award” on lock down until I stumbled onto that Lexus powered Corolla.
To fit the project Mu brakes and Wilwood rotor, a billet aluminum center rotor hub was CNC machined. This was just one of the sexy fabricated pieces on this Toyota Hilux. Respect.
Zoom in on the valve cover. Yup, that’s CNC machined too. Somewhere, our resident Nerd Herder John Nadari just wet his panties a bit.
On the way out, we scoped out some of the venders, like BMD Wheels. Their forged aluminum, 3 piece wheels are works of art.
We also caught up with GM engineer, prego booth babe and fellow MotoIQ editor Merrit Johnson at the www.showordisplay.com booth. Interested in legally importing a Skyline GTR? Avoid any mishaps with Homeland Security and check them out first.
The parking lot didn’t disappoint either. My wife thinks I parked in the very back of the parking lot because I’m an incompetent baboon incapable of making good decisions.
The real reason that I parked in the furthest nether regions of the lot, was so I could check out cool cars like this C110 Skyline.
More than a quarter of a century ago, I wonder if anyone really knew that the Skyline, or any other Japanese import for that matter, could be considered a classic car and have such a strong following. Ken and Mary would be proud.
