If you were hoping for some photos of the 2019 version of the completed K-Tuned Integra Type R then we have to disappoint you. That unveiling is likely not happening until the 2019 SuperLap Battle USA at the Circuit of the Americas on February 16 and 17, 2019. This event at the 3.4 mile long Grand Prix Course is something that enthusiasts have been waiting to happen. The format includes a last session of the day in which the five fastest cars from each class will compete on an empty track: one warmup lap, one hot lap, and one cool down lap. There will be no opportunity for drivers here to complain about missing out due to traffic. It is going to be an incredible opportunity for man and machine to test themselves.
James Houghton and the K-Tuned Integra Type R team are well underway to have everything ready for this incredible event. They are ready to challenge everyone in North America for the title of the fastest FWD car and we do not have to wait much longer to see what the Type R can do at this very fast track. The cooling will be vastly improved, the turbo is dialed in, and the aero is sucking the car down to the pavement. The implementation of Haltech’s Traction control combined with even more weight reduction – car and driver – will mean that this team will be even more potent. The Circuit of the Americas is going to be incredible but, unfortunately, it will not be the Unlimited FWD match up that Canadian and American Time Attack fans have been anticipating. That is because the Vibrant Civic is in Japan where Will Au-Yeung will be challenging the world at Tsukuba. As neither of these cars has competed at COTA previously, there will be no hard data to compare. James and the K-Tuned Type R have a blank slate to race at and to throw down the gauntlet. That head to head battle of these two teams from Kitchener-Waterloo in Canada will surely be an incredible event to attend.
Is the Type R ready? What we can say is that with every change and every season, seconds are being taken off and personal bests are being achieved. Looking ahead, the K-Tuned Integra Type R is absolutely ready to push the limits of Time Attack. James Houghton, Driver, Eric Lavigne, Crew Chief and builder, Mitch Hemmen, head fabricator plus the rest of the team make up an awesome crew. A solid group of sponsors tops off a great team. The question to be answered is will it be enough – and for that, we have to wait and see because only time will tell. The bottom line is that as these Canadian teams fight for the overall fastest time, the sport is being pushed faster and faster. What an amazing time attack revolution these Canadians have inspired. All of us are looking forward to and benefitting from that competition.
