Motovicity Ticket to Ride – Scion FR-S Build Part 2

,

The factory rubber bushings are great at reducing NVH, but they are equally as proficient at reducing steering feel and moving suspension components away from their ideal positions. This only gets worse with time as the rubber bushings lose their elasticity. Energy Suspension offers a complete line of urethane bushings for the Scion FR-S designed to provide long term consistent results.
Replacing the bushings on any car is not exactly rocket science, but it is definitely a job that if not done correctly can leave you with an extensive replacement parts bill. Here we have the SpeedForSale Motorsports team taking apart the front end of the Scion FR-S as they prepare to replace the bushings in the front lower control arms (part# 8,3131) and the rack and pinion bushing set (part# 8.10105). You can imagine what an extreme pain this job would be to try to tackle in your driveway. Do yourself a favor and let the pros handle it.
The weapon of choice for this job! The void in the stock bushing is so large that the entire blade of the reciprocating saw can fit and you can go straight to cutting out the inner metal sleeve.
For those bushings that don't leave your cutting tool much room to work with, the inner mounting bolt sleeve must first be removed. A clever way to remove the inner mounting bolt sleeve is to use a drill to break up the bushing and free the inner mounting bolt sleeve.
Once the inner metal sleeves are cut, they can be pressed out without causing any damage to the stock control arms. The front lower control arms are now ready for their new urethane Energy Suspension bushings.
In order to tackle the rear control arm bushing install the rear brakes and parking brake assemblies must be completely removed. The spindle and all control arms that attach to it will also need to be removed.
