The 1199 uses a nice TFT display for the dash. One dash light I found a nice touch is the ‘Side Stand’ light; for everyone who has ridden a motorcycle, we all have our stories of how we forgot to put the side stand down before leaning the bike over to get off…… In this picture, you can see the electronics are currently in ‘Sport’ mode with the other two options being ‘Race’ and ‘Wet’. The alphabet soup at the bottom: Ducati Traction Control, Engine Brake Control, Ducati Quick Shifter, and Anti-Lock Brake System. Modern sport bikes have caught up to cars on the electronic aids available. |
Race Mode gives the full 195hp along with maximum throttle response. It sets the DTC to a lower level, a race-oriented calibration for the EBC, and front only ABS. |
Along with Race Mode, you get the race dash with a lap counter, big gear indicator, and coolant temp to make sure you don’t overheat. |
Sport Mode and Wet Mode are not quite as exciting. Sport Mode still gives you the full 195hp, but gives a softer throttle response, higher level of DTC, and front and rear ABS. Wet Mode puts you down to 600cc sport bike power levels and maximum intervention to keep a novice from spitting themselves off the bike (though still quite entirely possible at this setting). |
