Nerd’s Eye View: SEMA 2015 – Part 2

,

Going old school a bit is this old Chevy powered Indycar. Seeing it reminded me of the good ole days with Rick Mears, Danny Sullivan, the Unsers, and the Andrettis at the Brickyard. The bodywork was very simple with the wings being in low drag configuration for speedway use.
Not too much in the way of sophistication to the cars back in the day. That brake setup is tucked in tight to the wheel!
The rear brake setup has this little carbon fiber cover with a NACA duct built-in to provide some cooling air.
With the speeds the cars saw at Indy, the air cooling openings and vents did not have to be massive.
Ford is making a huge push back into GT racing with their new Ford GT. We took a look at it from afar based on pictures, but we got a close up look at it in the flesh at SEMA. Here you can clearly see the upward angle of the front under tray we mentioned from our previous look.
