Project E36 M3 (Silver): Part 3 – Uncorking the M3 with the help of a Borla Cat-Back Sport Exhaust

,

Penetrating OilA top tip is to always use penetrating oil on your rusty exhaust nuts.  Let them soak for a few minutes and even the most stubborn, corroded nut can be removed with ease.
Loosen NutNext we loosened the nuts that fasten the muffler to the cats.
MissingWith the muffler out of the way, we turned our attention to the shiny new Borla unit.
Compare Borla to StockThe new Borla is dwarfed by the stock muffler.  While the Borla has slightly sharper bends prior to the muffler, the smaller straight-through flowing design is a lot less restrictive than the internally baffled design of the bent OEM unit.
Compare Borla to Stock 2Borla’s build quality, materials, and finish are worlds above the stock muffler.
Stock Muffler WeightThe stock muffler is a monster at 46.8 lbs while the super light Borla tipped the scales at 22.6 lbs, that’s less than half the weight and a 24.2 lb savings!
