We then turned our attention to removing the Air Control Valve (ACV) mounted on the lower intake manifold.
The ACV is a solenoid that regulates air from the Air Pump to the exhaust ports, the catalytic converter, or a dump to atmosphere depending on conditions determined by the ECU. Air is diverted to the cat only when cruising in 5th gear to lower emissions.
Here’s the OEM diagram for how the ACV system works. For more information on how this system and the rest of the emissions systems work, read here.
With the ACV removed, we can install the block-off plates.
We installed the Full Function Engineering 6061 T6 Anodized Aluminum ACV Block-off Plate and stainless hardware for a much cleaner and simpler configuration.
On the back of the lower intake manifold towards the firewall, we installed the block-off plates for the Split Air Pipe and ACV Tube.
On the turbo-side of the lower intake manifold, we installed the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) block-off plate.

Wow, all that complicated mess definitely needs to go for a track car!
