Project GD STI – Checking Out The Development of KW’s New 3-Way Adjustable Clubsport Coilovers

,

Despite it actually being a run of the mill track day car (I am not kidding, there were many million dollar exotics running around), the Porsche was one of the fastest if not the fastest cars on the track.  It looked to be very well planted.  After debriefing the driver reported that the car was working really well.

Klaus had some other dampers to try with different valving but the driver preferred the base set up which speaks very well for the initial calibration.  Klaus tried a few different adjustments to the damping but the driver preferred things only a few clicks different from the base settings.

In the end I think the car liked one click more low speed compression in the front, one click more rebound in the rear and a click more high speed rear compression.  Very small changes.  The driver reported that the Clubsports worked significantly better than the exotic and expensive shocks that were originally on the car!

After a day at the track, it was off to the KW factory to look at the shock's insides to see how they work.  The 3-way Clubsport is pretty innovative.  For an in detail look at the KW factory you can take a look here.   If you thought that was interesting you can also look here to see KW's manufacturing technology.

Prototype and development shocks are not built in the regular mass production side of the KW factory but here in the Motorsports and R&D shop.  All of the super trick KW Motorsports shocks are custom assembled by hand here and so are production prototypes for testing.

This machine is a durability test rig which can cycle shocks millions of times, simulating long term wear.
