Project GD STI – Checking Out The Development of KW’s New 3-Way Adjustable Clubsport Coilovers

,

This is one of the three shock dynos in the R&D shop.
The Clubsport is a unique design being that it is a hybrid between a monotube and a twin tube shock.  It has an inner and outer tube like a twin tube with a foot valve in between the two but it also has a remote reservoir with a gas separator as well.  Gas and oil are kept separate just like in a monotube.  The rebound damping and adjustment is mostly controlled by the piston on the shock shaft and the high and low speed compression are controlled by adjustable valves controlling fluid flow between the outer tube and the remote reservoir.  The valves are a departure from normal KW technology, which is a combination of spring loaded valves and deflected disks, the damping adjustment being done by changing spring preload.  In the 3-way Clubsport the metering adjustment is done through different sized orifices.  This was done so that each click would change the damping by a consistent amount throughout the adjustment range.  This part is the low speed compression damping valve and adjuster.
This is the high speed adjuster.  You can see the different sized holes in the valve.
The high speed adjuster valve in the remote reservoir.
The adjustment knob goes on then the low speed valve.
The reservoir assembly is complete.
