Project Honda Civic EJ: Skunk2 Suspension Upgrades Part 2

,

Honda Civic Skunk2 Rear Tie Bar

Last but not least, we wrapped this all together with the Skunk2 rear lower tie bar. The bar features heim joints at the end to facilitate fitment on the car while the body is made of CNC machined 6061 aircraft aluminum.

The heim joint threads are reversed for easy length adjustment by simply turning the center section and the alloy center section is knurled for good grip while adjusting the part.  The bar also has a corrosion resistant hard anodized finish.

Here is how the tie bar connects the mounting points of the rear trailing arms together.  This considerably stiffens this area.

Small as it might seem, like the rear lower control arms, this little bar helps to reduce chassis flex, which in turn helps the car maintain its proper suspension geometry. The lower arm bar ties the mounting points of the rear lower control arm together.  This area is made of flimsy stamped sheet steel on the Civic and the bar acts to reinforce this area reducing flex under load. Maintaining proper suspension geometry is important because most suspension components are designed to perform effectively at specific angles, so anything to reduce chassis flex will ultimately help all suspension related products perform optimally.

Speaking of all suspension related products, stay tuned for the remaining parts of Project EJ Civic's suspension makeover which will include:
