Project Lexus SC300 Road Racer: Part 6 – Practical Panels

,

The factory mounting holes here are good enough for us to attach a mounting plate to.
A single horizontal mounting plate will be attached to the factory dashboard and then attached to the switch panel. It needed to be bent at an odd angle due to the shape and angle of the factory dashboard, and to get it shoved up tight underneath the curve in the factory dashboard.
Nut mounting tabs were again riveted into place, and will secure the switch panel to the fabricated mounting panel. The mounting panel will be bolted to the dashboard using nylock nuts and bolts.
The mounting panel is bolted into place, and ready for the new switch panel to be attached to it.
It’s a little awkward to attach the switch panel to the mounting plate, but it’s not terrible. This also isn’t something that will be done regularly.
Now that the panel is the right shape and all of the openings are finalized, it’s time to start installing parts.

Standard style toggle switches have a threaded body and pair of nuts that are used to secure the switch to the mounting panel. Here a special slim wrench that is designed just for these types of switches is used to tighten the nuts.
