Project Lexus SC300 Road Racer: Part 6 – Practical Panels

,

Here’s the final product. The big red switch cover, as expected, is for the kill switch. You might be wondering why it is upside down. Here is my weird train of thought:

Sometimes when you have a spin, you end up stalling the car. The start button on the Smartwire SwitchPanel is directly above the kill switch. In a heated hurry, I envisioned pressing the start button to get the car fired up, and then dropping my hand across the kill switch, closing the red cover, and then killing the car. If I didn’t notice it, this would likely cause much confusion and or excitement. So, I decided to mount the cover upside down (flip up for off). Maybe this seems silly to all of you, but it makes sense in my head.

The black Carling switch is for the left/right blinker control, and the toggle switch below it engages the hazards. The two switches at the right engage up/down and in/out control of the steering column.

The switch panel is finally completed and installed. Only to be removed again in a moment!

In the next segment we will mount the data logger and finish blocking off holes in the firewall and rear bulkhead. This is an awful lot of work just to be able to pull some wire!
