We worked with Sweidit to modernize the interior of our NSX with Alcantara and Nappa Leather, replaced plastic trim panels with carbon fiber, and upgrade the head unit and amplifier.
Our NSX was greatly in need of an interior makeover. The Kenwood touch screen display was over a decade old and took what felt like minutes to change screens after touching the display. The head unit was surrounded by a poorly made carbon fiber center console from one of the many vendors that no longer exist that was poorly modified to fit the head unit.
The center console has a real NSX-R shift boot, and weighted shift knob from Skunk2. On the center console is a little remote that controlled the antique HKS CAMP2 data system which displayed parameters like oil temp and oil pressure on the double-din screen. This software was very limited and will be replaced by a full Motec ECU and dash in the near future.
The doors remained stock from 1992 with high quality leather on the armrest and door insert. The rippled leather is criticized by many to look ‘dated’ but I personally have always liked it. However, the car needs a little more contrast so we will be improving this with modern materials.
The stock headliner is covered in a light grey vinyl to give the interior a top-bottom contrast opposite of the exterior of the car (which has a black roof and white body).

That looks great and really provides subtle updates yet retains much of the look and feel of the original.
Be careful with that headunit though, or the android based ones like that. They usually run older builds of android, on older processors, with no way to *easily* upgrade the OS without rooting it and going down a rabbit hole there… It’s like buying a 5yr old android phone today, and using it, assuming it’ll work like today’s phones. Still a huge improvement from where you’re coming from. 🙂
You can still find some period correct headunits from pioneer or my favorite a Nakamichi CD45Z from that era. excellent quality, and has a line input, which you can adapt a BT adapter to. Sony also makes modern double-DIN headunits with knobs. KNOBS! God I miss knobs on aftermarket headunits.
