Project Professional Awesome Time Attack Evo: Part 0 – The End of an Era, the Beginning of a Legend

,

The combination of a stock, unported head, short 150mm rod length and stock frame turbine housing combined for prodigious amounts of torque, but sacrificed top end power for low end punch.
The MA Performance EF4 turbo responded quite well to the large displacement 4G63/64 combination with the turbo coming online at 4,000 rpm and holding steadily to redline. We did not get to run an event at 32psi unfortunately. Most events were in the 25psi range.
The new GTX352R ready and waiting. With catch can issues figured out, our goal is to be able to run this turbo to its full potential!
The difference in turbo recovery between shifts was astounding when switching from a recirculating bypass valve to this new Turbosmart Race Port. The small diameter outlet of the previously used valve was not allowing excess pressure to bleed quickly enough and causing the turbo to delay when rebuilding boost. With the switch to the Race Port, a noticable improvement in acceleration the moment after shifting was felt.
Our custom ETS Intercooler with lowered and revised inlet and outlet performs amazingly. Grant Davis, team mechanic, modeled the end tanks in Google Sketch-Up. We sent them over to ETS where they performed computer testing to ensure proper flow through the core and the result has been outstanding. Surviving two crashes, this intercooler may be heavier than the tube and fin it replaced, but cools extremely well and has handled all the abuse I've sent its way!

While at Road Atlanta, a MA Performance EF4 turbo performed the sucking, squeezing and blowing into the engine, but the Evolution V2.0 will be sporting a twin-scroll Garrett GTX3582R. As our friend, Zack Bailey, said upon seeing the new turbo, “If you can fit your fist in the compressor inlet, you know it’s legit!” The new turbo will be teamed with a MA Performance exhaust manifold and downpipe with boost kept in check by twin Turbosmart CompGate 40 wastegates. The compressed air is sent through our custom designed Extreme Turbo Systems bar and plate intercooler before going through a Full Blown 70mm throttle body and then into a MA Performance Rev 3 intake manifold. Tony Szirka, of UMS Tuning, taps the “+” key on the keyboard for more power via an AEM Series 2 ECU. He has remarked at how impressive the Extreme Turbo System intercooler works, even in the ridiculous heat of Phoenix, AZ, where the car was tuned. A Turbosmart Raceport BOV keeps excess pressure from damaging the turbo when the throttle is closed all while making cool whooshing noises!
