Project Professional Awesome Time Attack Evo: Part 0 – The End of an Era, the Beginning of a Legend

,

Cast from high carbon alloyed iron, the DBA 5000 Series brake rotors are amazingly long wearing. Our custom JM Fabrications hubcentric spacers eliminate any need for hubcentric rings and are machined to exacting tolerances from 6061 aluminum.

Brakes haven’t changed much over the years as the stockers seem to be holding up quite well. CL Brakes RC-8 sintered iron brake pads front and rear squeeze DBA 5000 series front brake rotors and 4000 series rear rotors. The CL sintered iron compound are remarkable for time attack requiring zero warm up time for maximum performance and never having issues with pad transfer, which we’ve experienced in the past with other brand's compounds. The DBA rotors are out of this world. The front rotors lasted 3 years… yes 3 YEARS of heavy abuse and were only replaced out of caution. The rears were still good before being pounded into a concrete wall. For the Time Attack Evo V2.0, we will be removing ABS for more reliability and weight savings. The ABS had been acting up over the last few events and we haven’t found a great solution that allows us to keep it as of yet.

Behold, the Enkei PF01 in all its glory. Our 18″x10.5″ wheels weigh in at 21.62lbs a piece. Enkei's MAT process improves the molecular structure of the aluminum which allows for weight reduction in the design of the wheel without sacrificing strength.
The difference between a Hankook Ventus RS-3 255/40-17 and a monster Ventus TD 295/30-18. The difference between the two tires is very remarkable. Gains of over .2 g with just a tire change were seen at Road Atlanta. To put this in perspective, imagine taking your mom's minivan, with its .73g road holding ability, and instantly turning it into a FR-S at .93g with just a tire swap!
With a little bit of effort, the 295 width Ventus TD will fit under a modified OEM rear Evo fender.

We switched to Enkei PF01 18”x10.5” 38mm offset wheels to accommodate Hankook Ventus TD 295/30-18 tires. The Enkei wheels were chosen for their phenomenal quality while also being incredibly lightweight. We went with a 38mm offset so we could fit the tires under the stock, clearanced rear fenders. Up front we added a JM Fabrications 10mm hub centric spacer custom made for our application, no extra hub centric rings needed. The spacers were added to provide additional clearance to the front coilovers, but after substantial cutting and modifying, Grant Davis, team mechanic/fabricator, got the stock fenders to clear the wide tires and look pretty to boot. Hankook amazed us with the RS-3 street tire and the Hankook Ventus TD has not let us down. We have had out of this world grip with sustained cornering numbers of over 1.60g seen at Road Atlanta.
