Project S2000: Part 24 – Bridgestone Potenza RE-71Rs and DIY Brake Ducts

,

I think I was the third fastest car for the day. The fastest was Oscar Jackson Jr. in his supercharged FR-S. He was on BFGoodrich also in 245/40/17 all around.
Just some basic maintenance while I was going through the car. Honda wasn’t messing around by using a cone filter stock to get as much power out of the S2000 as possible; the increased surface area of the cone filter reduces the pressure drop compared to a panel filter with lower surface area.
Um….. Yeah…. So I’ve never changed the cabin air filter since I bought the car about 7 years ago. It’s located at the base of the windshield on the passenger side and took all of 3 minutes to replace. Just pop up the plastic cowl, swap out filters, and pop the cowl back in.
I decided to check the coolant level and noticed the cap was busted. I ordered a new one for a few bucks.
I honestly cannot remember if I’ve ever topped off the coolant since I installed the Koyo many years ago. The car never runs hotter than the temperature regulated by the thermostat even when tracking in temperatures over 100degF. In checking it this time, it was about a centimeter below the ‘max’ line, so I just topped it off with some distilled water.
This is how much oil I got out of the rear Saikou Michi OCC. This is after the last Buttonwillow track day and the twenty auto-x runs. Nothing to speak of out of the front OCC.
