It actually does come in handy during longer races.
These make for a much cleaner job of routing cabling. Or you could use long strips of hook-and-loop wrapped around, but it’s not as pretty.
Wow! It really does look professional now. I should probably put lots of stickers on it. More seriously, though, despite having triple 40″ monitors, it really isn’t taking up that much more floor space than the old setup. And, if I was willing to adjust the monitors all the time, it wouldn’t be that terribly difficult to take off one or both side displays to tuck this thing more tightly to the wall.
It’s so awesome, though, that I don’t expect it to sit very long without using it.
It will take a bunch of adjustments to everything to get right. Not only can you adjust the height of the displays, the height of the wheel deck, the pedals, and the shifter, but the rig is not attached to the monitor stand, so you can adjust the distance there, too. Don’t forget that you can also adjust the view when in the simulator itself. Some thoughts:
- Put the rig as close to the monitor stand as you can.
- The body of my steering wheel is almost touching the screen.
- Your eyeballs should be at about 66-75% of the height of the display. In other words, if you drew a line across the screen ¾ of the way up from the bottom, that’s where your eyeballs should be.
- Adjust the in-game experience so that your position relative to the car seems realistic.
There is no “right” here, only what seems good to you.
