Project Toyota Supra MKIV, Part 5: Thermal coating and wrapping, and engine assembly

,

Parked behind the Supra sits a rarely seen Subaru 2.5RS about to be converted to a full Link engine management system.

Underneath the hood this RS sports an aftermarket turbo kit and, I'm told, a fully built 2.5-liter as well.  This would be a great sleeper.

Never knowing what hides beyond MKC's shop doors, I returned the next day and instantly noticed this gorgeous '95 Acura NSX, supercharged to 475whp.  The Ford SVT Lightning also came in for more boost enhancements.  If a car's been boosted and resides in the KC area, chances are it's been here.

Lastly, I just have to show you a close-up of the shop's awesome '73 Mazda RX2, raced by Alfonso Manrique, another one of MKC's wrenchers.  Having seen this car run myself, its acceleration is borderline laughable and people's mouths fire off interesting words the first time they see it go.

Boosted by a gargantuan Precision 4788 turbo, the RX-2's dyno-tuned to a meth-addicted 992whp.  Weighing peanuts, it's bested a 7.65 at 178 mph in the quarter thus far—pretty sick for the little 40-year old toy.

Not bad for a tuning shop in Kansas.  MKC is one of those shops you can often swing by on a weeknight around 7 or 8 pm, and find yourself with other gear-heads watching cars get dyno-tested like it's a dyno day.  It's a great place to blow off steam, but it helps if you're not married.  I am, but I first find out when dinner will be ready and the kids put to bed, and time it accordingly.

I swear, after spending hours wrapping that PHR spaghetti manifold, looking out the window I don't see the trees but Swain coated manifolds everywhere.  Thank goodness I don't have to wrap it again, and that it's also Spring time! I'm getting ever more anxious to get Project Supra running.  Stay tuned.
