Redline Track Events: Round 3 Race Report – Auto Club Speedway

Autoclub Speedway is one of my favorite tracks to go to.  It’s close enough that your friends and family will come out and see you and the facility is by far the nicest one in Southern California.  And best of all the track is one of the fastest tracks on the west coast!  Redline Time Attack invaded the track on Memorial day weekend to host the Redline Pro Time Attack, Redline Pro Track Challenge, and MotoIQ Pacific Tuner Car Championship.

For reasons unknown this weekend had a particularly brutal attrition rate.  In no particular order the weekend would claim the cars and/or motors of:

TH Motorsports Subaru STI, Road Race Engineering Mitsubishi EVO, MazdaTrix Mazda RX8, GMR Motorsports Honda S2000, Fontana Nissan 350Z, LG Motorsports Chevy Corvette, ABF Tech Division Mini Cooper, Fontana Nissan Sentra, CBR Racing Ford Focus, and the Ryan Lapp Racing Ford Focus.

The greatest thing about the racers in the Redline Track Event series is their resilience in the face of adversity.  The adversity in this case being blown up motors.  Most, if not all, of these guys will get cracking and have their cars ready for Round 4!

1st place finisher in Super Modified RWD Paul Brown and the K&N Engineering G35 experienced the biggest pucker moment of the weekend.  On the front straight the right rear tire decided to explode.  We don’t know the exact speed but it likely happened at over 140mph.  Thankfully Brown did not hit anything and was able to repair his car in the pits and make it out in time for the circuit battles race.

Robert Tallini in the Road Race Engineering EVO 8 was pulling double duty in the Time Attack and MotoIQ PTCC race.  The car was experiencing overheating issues on Saturday during practice but thankfully the team was able to manage overheating long enough to take the win in the SuperMOD AWD class.  The Road Race Engineering EVO was unable to make the MPTCC race which was heartbreaking to the team as they were turning some very fast laps in practice and were definitely a top contender for the win.

Road Race Engineering Teammate Alex Marmureanu was able to take 2nd place in SuperMod AWD for a Road Race Engineering sweep of the podium.

Kerryann De La Cruz drove her brand new Fontana Nissan Raceshop Nissan GTR R32 with a 1st place finish in Modified AWD.  This was the GTR’s maiden track event and they still have lots left in the car.  She is also one of the coolest chicks in the Time Attack arena!

When Fred Su of Evolution Racewerks isn’t working on his Street Class BMW 135i he is driving the Evolution Racewerks Honda Civic.  Here Fred lays the smack down in Modified FWD easily taking 1st place.
