Revenge of the Nerd – The Consultant, Helping Fast GT-R’s go Even Faster!

Mickey Thompson ET Street radials are run on the front tires on Volk TE37 SL wheels.  The M/T's are run on the front because they are actually more of a practical street tire with stiffer sidewalls for improved directional control.

In the rear, M&H Racemaster drag radials are used.  They have a more floppy sidewall that helps cushion the drivetrain since the GT-R reacts mostly like a RWD car in drag racing.  The computer puts the torque to the front if rear wheelspin is detected.  Rim screws were used to help prevent the tire from spinning on the wheel.

Close attention was paid to the tire pressure.  We started at a conservative 24 psi to avoid bogging out of the hole and to reduce the chances of driveline failure.  We recorded track and tire temperature during the runs as well.

Engine and transmission management were done via Cobb's Access Port reflashing the stock ECU.  The Access Port is a godsend for GT-R tuning.

The transmission controller, located in the trunk was programmed to launch the car at 4500 rpm.  To take all of the stress 1100 plus hp can dish out, the transmission had the gears, the clutches, the oil pump and a few other internal parts replaced with motorsports grade stuff by Dodson.  Most of the critical engine and transmission parts were also WPC treated.
