Revenge of the Nerd – The Consultant, Helping Fast GT-R’s go Even Faster!

,

As we get ready for our fist full pass, I am watching the amount of wheelspin, the chassis reaction and looking out for wheelhop at the wall.

As the car leaves, a lot of eyes track it to see how it's going down the 1/4 mile.  A debrief will tell us how to proceed next.  The car tracks straight and true.

I am looking for wheelhop to see if it is tire or suspension related.  The GT-R doesn't have that much rear antisquat which is good.  It is common for multilink Japanese cars to have a lot of rear antisquat in the suspension geometry which really contributes to wheelhop, especially with street tires and soft suspension bushings.  Radial tire cars like low antisquat because it shocks the tires less allowing them to find more mechanical grip.  Conversely true drag slicks with super soft sidewalls and real low air pressure on real drag cars with 4 link suspensions need a lot of antisquat to plant the soft tires harder into the ground.

8.83 @ 164 mph on our first pass, the record has fallen!  Our 1.490 60 foot time is much lower than the car has ever achieved before and there is no wheelhop, previously a serious problem.

Alright!  Now time to go faster!

Here is the timeslip.  Prior to our runs, the system was calibrated by a certified tech.  Frankly, I am dismayed by all of the smack talk going on about the efforts of the SP/Greddy team and the AMS team.  Fan Boi's of either company bashing both companies, exotic car nutswingers and douche bags hating on GT-R's plus the typical internet racer ilk making a bunch of FFF comments is super lame.  Going fast is hard and none of the smack talkers have a clue on how to do it much less make negative comments about SP/Greddy or AMS.  8 seconds in streetable, full bodied 3800 lbs cars is amazing.
