Revenge of the Nerd – The Consultant, Helping Fast GT-R’s go Even Faster!

,

Whoops we broke a rear axle!  Driveshaftshop heavy duty axles were on order but they did not make it in time.  Fortunately we have some spares.  A full one inch section of the axle shattered and broke up into tiny little shards of metal.

The Greddy/SP Engineering crew dives in and changes the axles.  Somehow they do it without removing the GT-R's belly pans and diffuser.  A GT-R is a little harder than normal to work on because of its native aerodynamic parts.

We decide not to back off on our chassis settings to spare anything.  Hing miss shifts on the next run and reports that the transmission is not responding predictably to his shift commands.  The team took some time to carefully cool everything down, double check the programing and scan for error codes.  Data logs revel that our chassis adjustments have cut wheelspin by about 50%.

Bang! On the next pass,  the record gets lower, 8.82@167.

Everyone is thinking about what can be done to go faster.

Some timing is added and the A/F ratio is leaned out.  SP Engineering did not want to lean on the expensive engine too hard.  We were afraid to shock the drivetrain much harder through the suspension as we were on our last set of axles.  We estimate that the engine was putting out power somewhere in the high 1100 range.
