Road Trip: Bavaria and the BMW Museum

The Art in Motion display features artwork by artists like Andy Warhol and Ernst Fuchs on various BMW cars. This is the 1990 BMW 730i decorated by Spanish artist César Manrique. Manrique's conservationist beliefs inspired him to use rolling lines and vivid colors to give the impression that the car can “glide through the air without any resistance.” 

 

The BMW Lovos is Anne Forschner's thesis in cooperation with BMW Design.  The idea being that the 260 panels can be moved individually in order to alter the skin according to the situation….crazy artists.

The 2004 BMW H2R concept car is a hydrogen fueled, internal combustion engine. Hydrogen burns hotter and faster, generates increased combustion pressures, and combusts at a slightly lower temperature than conventional fuels. More power from less energy with emissions that are essentially just steam.  

 

The 1968 BMW 2002 TI has dual Solex 40phh side draft carburetors and higher compression pistons making 120 horsepower. Hans Stuck won the 1970 Nurburgring 24 hour race in a 2002 TI.

The first generation 3 series BMW's were produced on the Munich assembly line in 1975.  13 million have sold since that time with BMW currently producing the sixth generation.

 

The BMW 328 Touring Coupé was victorious at the historic 1940 Mille Miglia (1,000 mile) race in Italy, driven by Fritz Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Bäumer averaging 166.7 km/hr.
