Tested! NGK’s New BMW 335i Coils and Bosch Plugs

,

With the engine cover off, the coils are exposed. These are easy to remove.

The coils are popped into place so to remove them, simply pop them off by pulling hard on the plastic tab.

If you need assistance getting them to break loose, a simple screwdriver can give you a lot more leverage. Those plastic handles are pretty strong. I had to use this method for both cars and none of the tabs broke.

Here’s a comparison of the NGK coil (near), compared to the factory unit we’re replacing behind it. We can’t see the internals, but it appears the NGK coil includes a metal insulation layer.

With the coils removed, the plugs are exposed. Notice, however, that these are 12-point plugs, not the usual 6-point you find in most cars. Your normal 5/8 socket will not work here.

  1. Awesome writeup, test, results and all. Installing the same setup in a stage 1 Revo Audi B7, tomorrow in fact, so yeah this is an exciting read.
