The Impossible Evo X: Part 3 – The Cooling System

A week later, this glorious ducting set was completed, maximizing the effectiveness of the Evo’s cooling package. The ducting also reduces drag caused by incoming air traveling to unwanted places. In addition to ducting the coolers, Turn in Concepts also added two 3” brake duct inlets that will be integrated into Binary Engineering brake ducts ‌I purchased secondhand to improve the reliability of the OEM braking system.

I love little details like using foam to seal the intercooler to the ductwork. This keeps air from spilling around to the backside of the coolers, which would reduce their effectiveness.
I didn’t know Turn in Concepts was going to make the brake ducts like they did, but I love the subtle nod to the Evo IX front fascia.

The Evo X still has a few shortcomings that need to be addressed. The previous owner installed aftermarket drilled and slotted brake rotors of unknown provenance. We are still running the OEM springs and dampers. The fueling system is known to cause starvation if run below half a tank. The oil pan doesn’t allow for adequate oil pressure in high G turns… Shit, there’s still a lot to do. On to solving the next issues before they become problems!

  1. I have issues with Mishimoto when they blatantly rip off another company’s design even leaving tracks like ordering a part to rip off on their own PO. It’s not even reverse engineering but a blatant copy of another company’s stuff like they did with Improved Racing. That just rubs me the wrong way.

  2. I’ve run that oil cooler on my X for about 6 years without any issues. I did the exact same with the lines, and its worked out very well. Very interested on the oil sensor as I agree….running the sensors (especially with extension lines) is a massive PITA.

    1. I am working with Turn in Concepts on the wiring soon with a dedicated datalogger. I’ll report back soon with how everything works out but we have used that same sensor in a different location on the Pro Awe Time Attack Evo VIII with good luck.
