Building the Ultimate Turbo Small Block Chevy Part 2, The Making of 1100 Hp!

,

The baffle is screened to prevent debris from being sucked up by the pump. The screen also helps to de aerate the oil mist.
The real innovation begins with the cylinder heads.  All Pro Ultra heads are used.  If you are old, you will remember that the ultimate Chevy heads had “202” intake valves with “150” exhaust valves.  This was the biggest that could fit in the old small block casting without hitting.  Well the All Pro heads feature a bunch of tricks to keep the engine state of the art in the breathing department.
First off the Al Pro heads have a modern combustion chamber design with excellent wet flow characteristics, a lot of quench area and high combustion chamber turbulence.  The 35cc chamber volume is quite compact which helps efficiency as well.  These look more like LS chambers than SBC old school ones.  The intake valve angle is canted at 23 degrees for a straighter better flowing intake port. Lots of modern awesomeness going on here!
The intake port is very high for a very straight shot down to the intake valve.  On an old school SBC, the intake port has to curve around the pushrods but notice on this engine it doesn’t.  The intake port is CNC shaped and hand finished.  The port volume is 280cc.
Likewise the exhaust port has a high and straight exit shot for outstanding flow  The port is also CNC shaped and hand finished.  You can actually see the exhaust valve.  On an old small block the valve was found at the end of a long convoluted tunnel.
The rockers are shaft mounted for maximum stability at high RPM.  No sideways skidding rocker arms or guideplates needed.  The shaft rockers mounting pedestal does make it somewhat more of a pain in the ass to remove the heads but are a great step forward for valvetrain reliability and modernization.  The pain in the ass factor is still no worse than on an engine like the Nissan VG30 for instance.
