ChumpCar at the Glen

,

Turn 13 is a fun corner and, if you can carry enough speed, you will get ahead of the pack. If you carry too much, then if the gravel trap doesn't get you, you'll be exploring the grass along the side of the track.
Team #320, In The Red Racing, came from Duluth to participate in ChumpCar at WGI.
#320's BMW is comprised of a team of three drivers. I met Barb (left) and Mandy (right) when they came to corner one to check on the line that driver's, including teammate Andy, were taking through this corner at the end of the front straight.

66.6% of In The Red Racing's team is female! My readers will know that I have long included my two daughters in my auto enthusiast hobby – Alisha as my tech support (when she is nearby) and Katie as my main time attack competition – so I have to take a moment to endorse In The Red Racing and hopefully encourage other women to get involved in the sport. The team comes from Duluth, Minnesota (pretty sure it's even colder there in winter than my hometown of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada) and their race involvement started with Andy Klatzky and his dad, Howard Klatzky, getting involved in track days in about 2008. Mandy McGee started tracking about 2010 and Andy's mom, Barb, in 2011. Both Andy and Mandy are BMW instructors. Looking for further adventure, in 2013 they built their ChumpCar and have been participating in 3 to 4 race weekends a year. Howard is the overseer of the team, Matt Margl is the mechanic, and Alyssa Olson the coordinator. Thank you for the great example you are to all of us.

In The Red Racing has a very organized pit area. Tools all in the right place. Driver's schedule listed and readily available. Keep watching this team as I think they're going places!
Pit row is always busy prior to the start of the races. Equally active throughout the race as pit row strategy is applied to help shave a few seconds off.
Here are two officials who work the track. Granny, in white and orange,  and the gentleman sitting behind him are track regulars. I wrote down both of their names – but have misplaced the card! I still want to give a shout out to both of them – great gentlemen who love auto racing. I enjoyed chatting with you and loved your enthusiasm for the support. Volunteers make race weekends work! If you're a ChumpCar volunteer, you can earn ChumpChange to help finance your race fees.
