The charge pipes are short and simple for less lag due to less internal volume.  No BOV plumbing makes things clean as well.

The compressor housing uses a ported shroud which reduces compressor surge, important in an ultra fast spooling turbo.  The turbo’s center section uses dual ceramic ball bearings in a floating cartridge which damps potentially damaging high order harmonic vibrations.  Ball bearings also speed spool up.  The divided exhaust housing has a free flowing .92 a/r and is investment cast stainless steel.  A divided exhaust housing greatly increases turbine efficiency when paired with an exhaust manifold that pairs cylinders 1-4 and 2-3 into opposite sides of the housing.

All of these tricks make for a turbo that spools about 1500 rpm faster than a typical turbo of the same power level, just the trick for combating the walls of torque and wide powerbands of your typical V8 pro drift car.

A close look on how the tubular stainless header pairs cylinders 1-4 and 2-3 into opposite sides of the turbo’s twin scroll exhaust housing.  This improves turbine efficiency and allows the turbo to spool about 500 rpm sooner.  Look how much simpler the exhaust plumbing is without having an external wastegate.

The EFR turbo also has other really cool features.  It has a big internal wastegate and a built in BOV right in the compressor housing.  These features make for much simpler turbo plumbing saving weight and space while boosting reliability, no more leaking wastgate and BOV plumbing, all critical things for a competition car.

To reduce the intake tract volume, another critical thing to improve throttle response and reduce lag, a V mounted Greddy R-Type tube and fin intercooler is used.  This means that really short intercooler plumbing is used.  With no BOV plumbing everything is really simple.  The exhaust is really simple, a stainless downpipe coupled to an aluminum rear section.  The internal wastegate means no potential leakage and having to have fiddly slip joints and bellows to reduce cracking. Engine control duties, including the variable cam operation are controlled by an AEM EMS which also powers large injectors for E85 fuel.
