Honeywell Garrett Boost Festival 2017: Part 1- Global Time Attack!
Global Time Attack is known to be the premier Time Attack series in Northern America, and arguably, in the western hemisphere of the globe. This isn’t MotoIQ’s first rodeo at another wildly successful GTA event, and it is far from being Global Time Attack’s first highly publicized, sold out competition. GTA teamed up with Honeywell Garrett for the 2017 Boost Festival, taking place at Southern California’s Streets of Willow Springs Raceway. Hundreds of teams and spectators made the trek to a cold and windy Rosemond, CA, in order to pursue and find out who can put down the quickest lap times.
Although only 1.6 miles per lap, Streets of Willow Springs is the type of track that separates the “shoes” from the pack and is biased to finely tuned suspension setups. Having optimal tires is always preferred, of course, however, it is crucial on this tight course. This is the type of track where power and extensive aerodynamics can’t always save the driver, as there are very few places to stretch legs going the clockwise direction and is a low to mid-speed course. It’s an excellent place to practice car control due to the constant lefts and rights at relatively conservative speeds.
Drivers that are willing to risk it all for one hot lap are heavily rewarded here, however, isn’t that the very nature of Time Attack? This is why we love the sport, so let’s see what crazy competition there was and who brought their best!
Let’s get down to business, starting with the fastest and the tightest competition!
Fastest of the Day!
This GT-R was so fast that we were actually only able to tame it enough for a photo outside of its trailer. Not only did David Haagsma go nuts with his all new 2017 livery and Unlimited class upgrades, but he smashed the fastest time overall for the day with a 1:18.717 lap time!
