Pedders eXtreme XA Coilovers – Chevrolet SS Installation & Test Drive

,

Pedders' eXtreme XA Coilovers come with all the necessary brackets to secure all OE equipment such as brake lines, ride height sensors, MagneRide sensors, sway bar end links and ABS wheel speed sensors.

When applicable, Pedders provides new mounting hardware such as top-mounts, rubber isolators, etc for an easy bolt-on suspension solution. No need to buy new expensive OE hardware. In the case of our car, we used the supplied rubber spring mounts to reduce your typical coilover NVH since the emphasis is quite daily driving versus track performance.

If you do wish to bias your car toward track performance, Pedders can supply spherical bearing equipped caster camber plates to get the most out of your suspension with an increase of NVH.

The Pedders XA coilovers have integrated dust boot to minimize contamination and protect the shaft seal. This is a great feature for daily driven cars that are exposed to all the elements like rain, snow, dirt, etc.

Here is a close view of the anti-corrosion coated threaded strut body and the high-grade aluminum adjusters.

The top set of adjusters control the spring preload while the bottom adjuster, lock-ring controls the struts overall length and directly affect ride height independently of spring preload.

One detail that is not easily noticed is plastic thrust bearings for the springs.  As springs compress, they twist and kink. This kinking action causes side load on the shock shaft and binding which ruins ride quality and messes with the dampers' effectiveness. By allowing the spring to move more freely, the kinking force is reduced and the ride is improved.

Rear shock assembly has the same design features and the front struts. You can see the easily accessible damping adjuster knob and the dust boot that keeps water and dirt out of the seals.

Like the front struts, the rear shocks can be independently adjusted for ride height and preload.  This way the car can be lowered without reducing bump travel.
