Pedders eXtreme XA Coilovers – Chevrolet SS Installation & Test Drive

,

The Pedders shocks use progressive soft MCU bump stops. MCU stands for Microcellular Polyurethane.

By having a soft progressive bump stop, the car bottoming in a corner, for instance when hitting a big bump, is less likely to upset the chassis balance at the limit.

The rear springs are coilover type but are shaped to use quieter OEM style rubber top mount, although spherical bearing race type soil mounts are optional.

The Pedders coilovers come with adjuster extensions for the rear shocks to make quick adjustment a snap as well as a set of spanners to adjust the spring preload and the ride height.

The first step to install the Pedders XA coilovers on our SS was to raise it up and remove the wheels.

The front struts were removed. A lot is going on in the front with MagneRide connectors, ride height sensors, ABS wheel speed sensors, sway-bar end link mounts all needing to be removed as well.

The SS has a neat way to set camber at the front knuckle. The strut housing is slotted for the upper mounting bolt. The camber can then be adjusted by turning this stopper bolt which controls the knuckles position in the slotted housing, thus adjusting camber. This is a really cool and simple way to adjust camber that we wish more manufacturers would do.
