Pedders eXtreme XA Coilovers – Chevrolet SS Installation & Test Drive

,

The Pedders coilovers' strut housings come with the proper design features and needed to be able to use the OE camber adjuster. The bolt on knuckle in the picture above pushes against this tab, moving the knuckle in and out to adjust the camber positively and accurately.

Disassembly of the front suspension is relatively simple: remove both strut bolts, three strut tower nuts, sway bar, and unplug the MagneRide, ride height sensors and ABS wheel speed sensors.

The front Pedders coilover strut goes right in with no need to do anything, since it already comes pre-assembled with all of the necessary mounting hardware. Once the front coilovers were installed, it was time to re-install the swaybay, but as you can see the swaybar mounting tab on the coilover and the swaybar endlink were a ways from each other.

You'd think it would be easy to just flip the sway bar up to close the gap, but the curvature of the sway bar did not allow it to rotate to move upwards very much with the sway bar chassis mounts in place

Very long ratchet extensions and some creativity allowed us to access and loosen the sway bar mounts, despite them being buried deep in the engine compartment on the cross member.

Once the bar mounts were loosened, we could rotate the sway bar enough to hook up the end links, then re-tighten the bar mounts to complete the front strut installation.

Our front suspension is now ready to go!
