Project Ford E350 Tow Rig: Part 4 – Calling for backup!

Here’s a nighttime view of the Edge display.

It’s good, but that’s because we already have some janky auxiliary backup lights. And it might be good enough. But more is always better. And, given how awesome the Edge light bar was, we figured we would add some light pods to the back of the van to really make things interesting.

Here are those janky auxiliary backup lights.

They have seen better days. Those days were also many, many days ago, as you can also probably tell. It was time for these to go. I’m not even sure they both come on.

The van is also equipped with a backup distance beeper. This is the sensor/emitter.

It actually just uses a little tweeter as the speaker for the beeps.

I left it for now because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get rid of it or not. When you are backing up with a trailer attached and turning, it’s actually really kind of annoying. Yes, thank you, I realize something is there. It’s the same trailer that’s been attached for the last 14 hours. It’s nice that you’re suddenly letting me know it’s there now that I’m backing up, but, really, I’m good.

If I had a button to make it go off, I might keep it. But I think I’ll eventually ditch it, especially now that I can see what’s behind me.

The light pods, like everything else from Edge, come as a very complete kit.

Much like the light bar, there is a complete harness with a nice automotive relay and power switch, hardware, zip ties, and instructions. But I bought the Lit LED Wide Shot 5 watt pods that came with an EAS power switch.

    1. Yeah I realized I forgot to blur some of them a little bit late, and the way our photo system is set up I can’t delete photos, and it’s not hard for someone to just go to the whole photo gallery, so even if I added new blurred photos the old ones would still be there for now, so I just left them.

      Thanks for noticing, though! =)
