Project STurdteen, Plumbing the Motor and Getting Her Ready to Run!

You can see the 4 polyester plys here.  Most lower quality hose is only two-ply.

We also used HPS silicone vacuum hose.  It is tougher and much more temperature resistant than the typical rubber vacuum line.

We used the HPS vacuum line for the turbo wastegate to the AEM Electronics boost control solenoid. Since our S13 will be running an Infinity 5, this combo will give us many performance and safety options that we can program in. We also used HPS vacuum line for the MAP sensor and fuel pressure regulator.

We used -8 Earls Autoflex hose to fix the engine venting. We fabricated a stainless hard line from the block vent over to the valve cover vent.  We used a hard line as this vent tube needs to pass near the hot turbo manifold.

Dash -8 Autoflex hose runs from both valve cover vents over to the catch can.  Now all 3 engine crankcase vents are functional. Crankcase pressure will not be an issue anymore.

The crank vents lead to the Canton Racing Products catch can that has a breather filter. The catch can has a handy drain for any oil that may end up here.

    1. Bring your ride to the MotoIQ Garage and we’ll gladly make one for you. But no, we won’t be making them in batches to sell.

  1. Slightly banal nitpicking, but with such nice hoses you should really use band clamps that do not dig into the hoses. They are standard on VWs, which is one of the few things on Vdubs that are intelligently designed.

  2. I’ve been meaning to improve the breather system on my SR20. My question is, can I remove the PCV valve and still have a suction hose on the the catch can? Meaning, Not vent the catch can atmospherically? I am currently running a MAF.

    1. Hi Jose, in the case of a MAF equipped engine you can vent the catch can behind the MAF and in front of the turbo compressor inlet as in the case of OEM application. Be sure to put the vent as far away from the MAF as possible so blowby gasses don’t contaminate the hot wire.
