Project V8 E46 M3 Racecar: Adding KW Motorsport Suspension and StopTech Trophy Big Brakes!

,

The strut also has an adjustable lower excentric so the caster can be adjusted at the bottom of the strut body.

Since the shock shaft is inverted, the rebound adjuster which is usually found at the top of the strut shaft is instead found on the bottom where it is adjusted via this big purple knob.

The camber is adjusted via this plate on the top of the strut assembly like a traditional camber plate.

The hose for the remote reservoir exits here at the top as the strut shaft is actually the bottom of the damping cartridge due to the inverted design.

High and low-speed compression damping is adjusted on the remote reservoir just like the rear shocks.

Here is a closer view of the lower eccentric for caster adjustment and the purple locking ring that secures it.

Of course, we had to upgrade the brakes for our racecar. Our brakes of choice were StopTech’s Trophy system.

The Trophy system is an upgraded version of StopTech’s standard brake system. Using FEA analysis, about 3/4 of a pound are paired from your typical caliper forging though CNC machining with no sacrifice in stiffness.

The calipers and rotor hats are then hard anodized to give a tough aluminum oxide finish that resists wear and corrosion. Unlike powder coating, hard anodizing won’t change color with heat and resists fading, so no more brown calipers!
